Eltham College Render

A leading independent school engages the core principles of sustainability, designed to express the quintessence of sustainable education. The fundamental objective for the building is to create a symbolic connection to the site and the traditional custodians of the land by educating all future custodians and students. In turn, this effectively uses the impressive high performance structure as a teaching tool for the students. Designed by Archiblox in collaboration with Clarke Hopkins Clarke.

The building intends to function as both an interactive and passive means of achieving sustainable outcomes and in turn will be used as a teaching tool for students. Enhanced by the visual connection to the natural landscape, both siting and orientation have been considered to optimize passive solar and cross ventilation whilst framing key views and minimizing site disturbance.

The Eltham College ‘E-Hub’ will utilize a number of sustainable living and future-proofing practices and technologies such as:

  • Compositing Toilets
  • Green Sense Scientific Monitoring System
  • Grey Water System
  • Rainwater Tanks
  • Solar Panels
  • Passive systems including an Entry Air Lock
  • Battery Storage
  • Cross Ventilation and External Shading
