In the Studio - Northcote House
We are currently working a number of exciting projects, both in the design stages at our Richmond studio and the construction stages at our construction facility in Laverton. One such project is our Northcote House – a sustainable and environmentally friendly home in the vibrant Melbourne suburb of Northcote.
Designed to last a lifetime, this large family home makes use of high quality, sustainable and recycled materials, laid out in a functional floor-plan to suit every member of the family. Aiming for 9 Stars and incorporating renewable energy production, rainwater harvesting and eliminating the need for mechanical cooling, this home is designed for sustainable living and healthy well-being.
A large open plan kitchen, living and dining room creates enough space for the extended family to gather together at Christmas, but with an intimacy to allow the room to remain cosy and snug even when it’s just the immediate family of four.
Large sliding doors open the space up to the outdoor living area and natural pool; the perfect cohesion of spaces for entertaining and relaxing.
Conscious of creating space for their children to make mess and be noisy, the design separates the kid’s bedrooms and living space in the upstairs module. The parents are treated to a private master wing and have created a workshop space for their hobby activities.
The aesthetic of this design will be modern, with a warm, organic and natural quality. Sustainably sourced timber will be used to detail the home, internally and externally, achieving the desired warmth and natural quality the clients are after.
The clients are serious about creating a healthier, more sustainable, lifestyle for themselves and their children. They hope to plant a large vegetable garden to facilitate growing their own produce and have chickens as pets. They are eager to reduce their impact on the planet whilst also creating a rewarding and enriching life for themselves.
